Principles of Provenance Theme Proposal

چکیده
Theme topic and brief description Recent research in a variety of settings (databases and data warehouses [10, 7, 20, 8], file systems [17], geographic information systems [6], scientific workflows and grid computation [19, 13], archiving and digital curation [1], and the Semantic Web [14]) has considered the problem of keeping track of metadata about creation and modification history, influences, ownership, and other provenance or lineage information. Such metadata is essential for making informed judgements about data quality, integrity, and authenticity. In addition, ideas about provenance are now being used in several other areas of computer science such as probabilistic databases [12], adaptive computation [4], security [15, 3] file synchronisation [11], and annotation propagation [5]. Other topics, such as version control and archiving, may also benefit from better understanding of provenance. We believe the time is ripe to develop the foundations of the topic and address questions such as:

Metadata Provenance in Europeana and the Semantic Web
This thesis gives an overview on various ways and best-practices to handle metadata provenance in the Semantic Web, including the employment of linked data principles, reification, OAI-ORE, and named graphs. It reflects the work of the W3C Provenance Working Group, the W3C RDF Working Group and the DCMI Metadata Provenance Task Group, with a special emphasis on a mapping between Dublin Core and...
متن کاملSubmitted to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission on Transmission Cost Allocation Proposal
Introduction This comment addresses the recently proposed rules for transmission investment and transmission cost allocation (TCA) as offered for the restructured electricity market in New England. The basic theme is that the TCA proposal is both inconsistent with the new market design in New England and not supported by the TCA proposal’s own analysis. Rather, the TCA proposal reflects an earl...
متن کاملIntegrating Provenance into the Web of Data
During recent years an increasing number of data providers adopted a set of best practices for publishing and connecting structured data on the Web, leading to the creation of a globally distributed dataspace, the Web of Linked Data [1]. While this dataspace holds an enormous potential, using data from the Web poses questions of information quality and trustworthiness. Provenance information ab...
متن کاملSPROV 2.0: A Highly-Configurable Platform-Independent Library for Secure Provenance
Data provenance allows us to explore the lineage and derivation history of data objects. As data and its provenance flow between people and tasks in potentially untrusted environments, it becomes essential to provide integrity and confidentiality assurances for provenance. Any solution also needs to be efficient, modular, and easy to deploy. In this poster and demonstration proposal, we discuss...
متن کاملDiscontinuous Residue and Theme in Higher-Order Semiotic: A Case for Interlocking Systems
The fallacy persists in discourse analysis research to explore lexicogrammatical phenomena detached from any adjacent plane of the meaning potential. In an attempt to dispel this and toss out some preconceived notions about what a modern SFG vantage point should involve, this study homes in on one aspect of SFG within prose fiction in particular, which is very revealing in terms of how separ...
